FAUNTS
Left Here Alone EP
FFR-026

Over the course of two full-length albums, a remix collection, and an EP, Canadian band Faunts have tirelessly and imaginatively crafted their unique sound: hazy sprawl refashioned into pulsing synths; ambient noise transformed into vocal-oriented sublimity. Now, Faunts have given us one more articulation of their vision: "Left Here Alone", a lengthy EP of songs plucked from an early era in the band's history. It is a "lost record" of sorts - filling in the empty spaces in Faunts' evolutionary map between their debut "High Expectations/Low Results" and their most recent full-length "Feel.Love.Thinking.Of." - and it is beautiful. Available digitally and on gorgeous white vinyl on November 20, 2012.

MIREL WAGNER
MIREL WAGNER
FFR-025

The debut album from Ethiopian-Finnish folksinger Mirel Wagner is a haunting, quiet piece of work that is unflinchingly melancholy and subtly poetic. Mirel draws from a deep tradition of moody, introspective songwriters like Leonard Cohen and Nick Drake, combining stoicly picked, almost trance-inducing acoustic guitar, a voice you wouldn't expect to hear from a 23 year old, and lyrics that deal with dark and ghostly themes: necromancy, love, death and the devil. Mirel's music is deeply intimate and startlingly beautiful, and signals the emergence of a striking new talent. Available on CD and digitally on March 26, 2012.

TREEFIGHT FOR SUNLIGHT
A COLLECTION OF VIBRATIONS FOR YOUR SKULL
FFRD-018

Copenhagen-based quartet Treefight for Sunlight's debut album "A Collection of Vibrations for Your Skull", bottles their swooning, roller-coasting, falsetto-voiced, deliriously jubilant sunshine pop into ten mini-symphonies. Protégés of Friendly Fire labelmates Oh No Ono, Treefight for Sunlight weave together the legacy of California's west coast art pop, with its origins in the epic harmonies of the Association and the Turtles, as well as the more experimental sounds of 70's icons Sparks and LA's Paisley Underground scene. Fans of the Flaming Lips, MGMT and Panda Bear will surely also appreciate Treefight for Sunlight's layered, twisting, caramelized energy and absorbing imagery. REGINA
SOITA MULLE
FFRD-017

"Soita Mulle" [Call Me] is the new album from the superb Finnish-language band Regina. The album is a courageous departure from the previous album  "Puutarhatrilogia", moving from the synth-based sounds of the band's older work to a dreamy, introspective sound influenced by the halcyon days of 4AD and Sarah Records.  The band, comprised of composer-producer Mikko Pykäri, singer-lyricist Ilsa Pykäri and drummer Mikko Rissanen, effortlessly cross the language barrier with their lovelorn dream-pop.  Available digitally on September 20, 2011.

THE CONCRETES
"SEABIRD"
FFRD-016

The Concretes cover of the Alessi Brothers' classic. "I've had Seabird in playlists and Dj sets for years now. It just has that thing, whatever it is, that makes it feel fresh and new every time you play it. Yet the melody sounds like it's been hummed for centuries. I brought it as a reference to the band when we recorded wywh so it made sense to cover it now, even if the original is already everything I want it to be. It's catchy, sad, breezy, slick and broken all at the same time. And the production works perfectly with the lyrics.  It sounds like it comes from inside a seashell." - Lisa Milberg, The Concretes. Available digitally on July 19, 2011.

VIOLENS / ERIKA SPRING
7"
FFR-024

We first cut our teeth in the music business putting out 7" vinyl way back in the day, and we'd been feeling the urge to start doing so again, so when Jorge Elbrecht of the NYC band Violens suggested that we put out a split 7" with him and Erika Spring from the beloved all-girl-twee-pop trio Au Revoir Simone, we immediately said yes. The 7" features the track "It Couldn't Be Perceived" from Violens' debut album Amoral and "6 More Weeks" from Erika Spring - her first release as a solo artist, and one that, while darker and moodier than her work with Au Revoir Simone, is nonetheless sure to please fans of that group. Includes a download card for Friendly Fire's latest digital label sampler. Available digitally on July 19, 2011 and on 7" on August 2, 2011.

Finlands Delay Trees are one of the most interesting new bands to come out of the Nordic indie music scene. With its effervescent guitars, mathematic loops and synthesizers, surging drums, and seemingly nomadic bass lines, "Feel.Love.Thinking.Of.", Faunts' masterful second album, is both more ambitious in its conception and more focused in its execution than anything the band has done before. Faunts are a band of perfectionists - every movement agonized over, every melody deconstructed and explored - whose labors have resulted in an expansive, layered, textured, and sublime collaboration. "Feel.Love.Thinking.Of." is a huge step forward for the band and a true supernova of an album. Released February 17, 2009.

Windmill - Puddle City Racing Lights

  WINDMILL
Puddle City Racing Lights CD
FFR-010

A heady distillation of US indie (think Built To Spill, Guided By Voices, Mercury Rev and Flaming Lips), early ‘70s melancholia and twisted folk-pop, Windmill's " Puddle City Racing Lights" is an accomplished debut album and completely the vision of one man. Born and raised in a small town in Southern England and now residing in London, Matthew Thomas Dillon possess a distinctive voice that sounds like Neil Young on a helium comedown and his lyrics speak to the detritus of modern life – airport lounges, plastic chairs, flourescent lights. Dillon produces songs that swell with bruised emotions, fragile melodies and bombastic orchestration. Released July 22, 2008.

The Whitsundays - The Whitsundays

  THE WHITSUNDAYS
S/T CD
FFR-008

It could just as easily be 1967. But no matter the year, Edmonton, Alberta's the Whitsundays certainly have a knack for writing yellowed, reverb-wrapped pop music, borrowing from the grand tradition of English psychedelia, garage, and vintage organ rock. With reverent nods to the flower-picking whimsy of the Zombies, the red-faced bluster of the Animals, and the delightful inanity of Syd Barrett, the Whitsundays' self-titled debut is a vintage gem, and a charming hodgepodge of '60s musical ephemera. Featuring members of Faunts and Shout Out Out Out Out. Released January 22, 2008.

FAUNTS
M4 Digital EP
FFRD-001

**Temporarily out of stock.** Originally written for a live performance hosted by the Film And Video Arts Society, M4 (which includes the song "M4 Part II," as featured in the video game "Mass Effect") is composed of scores originally created to accompany three independent short films. Harnessing the use of electronics and synthesizers, Faunts have gathered material that is more ambient and atmospheric than their previous work, but still demonstrates their love for layered melodies and sparkling electronics. This is a nearly album-length digital EP - we have a VERY LIMITED quantity of physical copies and will not be repressing them, so if you want a CD copy, order now! Released January 7, 2008.

  DAVID & THE CITIZENS
Until the Sadness is Gone CD
FFR-005

A truly remarkable album: jubilant, melodic, and intelligent. Lovingly arranged, lyrically moving, and distinctively Scandinavian. Heartstring-tugging, but still a hell of a lot of fun. From the whooping klezmer clarinet on opening track “The End” (which works surprisingly well in the context of an indie pop song) to the bouncy harmonies of “New Direction,” “Until the Sadness is Gone” is a confident and catchy release from one of Sweden’s greatest exports since Ikea. Released October 31, 2006.

Citrus CD
FFR-004

Twelve slices of guitar-swirling, sweet-and-sour, bilingual dream pop. Frontwoman Yuki’s voice is more assured than ever, swinging from a girlish falsetto to plaintive laments and switching effortlessly between Japanese and English lyrics, all the while anchored by the lush, turbulent guitar of James Hanna. This is the sound of a band coming into its own, and having fun doing it. Released May 30, 2006.
